My roots are tethered in the beautiful island of Mauritius situated at the east coast of Madagascar, also known as the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean. I graduated from a B(Eng) Hons. in Mechatronics from the University of Mauritius in 2007 and was thereafter enrolled in an MSc Computer Control and Automation from the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) of Singapore, successfully completed in 2009. I further graduated in a Specialising Master in Automatica and Control Technologies from the Politecnico di Torino of Italy lately in 2011.
I am currently working towards my Phd degree in Robotics and Image Processing at INRIA since February 2012. My area of research revolves around a sub field of mobile robotics known as Visual SLAM (Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping).
My area of research deals with the general problem of visual mapping of complex 3D environments that evolve over time. This requires explicitly taking into account the variability of viewing conditions and content within a 3D geometric and photometric model of the environment. The aim is to build models that remain usable over long periods of time for navigation tasks (localisation and path following) for autonomous systems or for people that require guidance. This problem is referred to as Lifelong Learning and Mapping.
