State of the Art
In this Chapter, we provide an overview of the most popular objective
speech and video quality measures. We give a brief description and the
main features of each one; but we provide a comparative analysis for
them in Chapters 5 and 6. We also highlight
the basic multimedia transport protocols. The challenges and some
solutions, including error concealment techniques for audio and video
streams, of transferring real-time multimedia over packet networks are
presented. Then, we introduce both speech and video compression
algorithms. We also describe some of the standard speech and video
codecs. In This thesis, we use two types of neural networks (NN); namely, Artificial NN (ANN) and Random NN (RNN). We give in this Chapter a general description of both of them.
